Turn social media into a language learning superpower

In today’s newsletter:
🔸 Discord servers for language learning
🔸 A new guide from me
🔸 More random links!
Hey Reader. I’m happy to announce I’ve added a new guide to Mondecast! You can read more about it below.
Over on Reddit, we’ve been seeing a huge influx of posts from people making their own apps and wanting to promote them there. The odd one hasn’t been a problem, but the quantity has forced us to make some changes to restrict it, which isn’t something we (the mod team) like doing. An FYI for anyone thinking of making their own, please remember to think about where your product fits and what problems for people it solves that aren’t already met by current options! We’re seeing a lot of AI assisted tutors and flashcard apps, and I’d wager 95% of them will be gone in 5 years :/

Mondecast Feature 💡: Hack the Algorithm: turn social media into a language learning superpower
This week has seen the release of a new guide. This one is shorter than the book, I hope you can understand why. The focus is on how to take your ordinary TikTok, YouTube, or Instagram scrolling habits and turn them into a fun and easy language learning activity.
It’s being offered for free to anyone who signs up to my newsletter. Since you’re already signed up, here’s the link:
Spotlight 🔦: Immersion with Discord
If you’re starved for language practice, I’d recommend you check out discord. Reddit has a list of servers, but you can find good ones just with Google. There are often conversation groups in languages, and sometimes people will be sitting around playing a game like Skribbl or Geoguessr as something to pass the time and use the language. Immersion from your desk.
Here’s a few things I found around the web recently:
From around the web 🌐
Linguistics
Languages
What would be the best universal language?
How Germanic is English?
Language Learning
I stumbled upon this person’s language resource repository. It focuses on English, French, Japanese, Spanish, and Chinese.
Over on Reddit, someone asked What’s a moment you’re proud of when you used your new language in a real-life situation?
